Robert Kubica says a move to the DTM series could be an option in 2013, with the Pole open to a full-time seat in the category. The Kraków-born driver, who has been recovering from a near-fatal rally crash for the past two years, says he felt ‘no big limitations’ in the Mercedes DTM AMG C-Coupé during a test in Valencia this week.
"For sure, DTM could be an option for me," Kubica explained. "It depends on different factors and different things, but the most important one is that the pace and performance of myself is good.
"This test was just to get a feeling of the car, to see how it looks and how it is to drive a DTM car. Of course, the DTM season starts a bit late so there is still time, but other options which I have I need to decide on pretty soon. So we will see."
Kubica went on to talk positively about his progress and the possibility of returning tothe cockpit of a Formula 1 car in the future, but says there is still ‘a long way to go’.
"Slowly it’s getting better," he said of his recovery. "Definitely it’s a long way to go and hard work, but it’s already a good point to be testing in Valencia. I would prefer to be in a Formula 1 car, but you have to do small steps, step-by-step. Maybe one day I will get the opportunity to drive an F1 car again in Valencia.
"I have some limitations, but I’ve driven plenty of cars and if I have enough room in the car, which I have in the DTM car, there are no big limitations for my arm or for myself. I feel better the more often I drive."
The 2013 DTM season starts at Hockenheim on 5 May, before the teams and drivers visit nine more venues across Germany, Great Britain, Austria and the Netherlands.
