Audi tests Frijns at 'scouting' event
22 November 2013 – Robin Frijns was one of eight young drivers to gain cockpit time behind the wheel of an Audi DTM car during the German manufacturer's recent scouting event at Monteblanco.
The 22-year-old Dutchman, who claimed the Formula Renault 3.5 crown in 2012, is yet to determine his future after budget-restricted year, during which he contested a part-GP2 campaign with Hilmer Motorsport and parted ways with the Sauber team.
"We regard this talent scouting event as an investment in the future," said Dieter Gass, Head of DTM at Audi. "We're absolutely happy with our current driver line-up but would still like to give young talents an opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes of the DTM from time to time.
"This is how some of our current drivers got started as well and today they're part of the DTM or other series."
Amongst others, Audi also handed mileage to European Formula 3 drivers Jordan King and Harry Tincknell and German Formula 3 champion Marvin Kirchhöfer.
