DTM debut for Petrov at Portimão test
23 January 2014 – Ex-Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov has been given his first official DTM test outing by Mercedes.
The 29-year-old Russian, who experienced spells with Renault and Caterham during his time in the top echelon, is getting behind the wheel of the DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé at the Portimão circuit on Thursday.
"I'm absolutely delighted and really grateful to Mercedes-Benz for inviting me to test drive one of their DTM cars," said Petrov. "This test is a great opportunity to get back in the cockpit of a high-performance racing car.
"The DTM is top-class and one of the most competitive touring car series in the world."
Last year, Petrov trialled DTM machinery at the Moscow City Race around Red Square, and drove the Mercedes-Benz DTM racing taxi when the category made its maiden visit to Russia at Moscow Raceway.
