Petrov secures Mercedes DTM drive
28 February 2014 – Vitaly Petrov will contest the 2014 DTM season with Mercedes-Benz, the Russian has confirmed.
Petrov, 29, makes the switch to the series following a short spell in Formula 1. Between 2010 and 2012, he raced for Renault and Caterham, claiming Russia's first ever podium finish at the 2011 season-opener in Australia.
He tested a DTM car for Mercedes in Portugal last month, with a race deal subsequently being agreed.
"The DTM is a great racing series and I'm very happy that Mercedes-Benz are giving me the chance to compete against the world's best touring car drivers," said Petrov, who becomes Russia's first ever DTM driver.
"I'm aware that I've got a steep learning curve ahead of me, but I love a challenge and accept it gladly."
The opening round of the DTM campaign takes place at Hockenheim on the weekend of May 3-4.
