Wittmann not thinking about Formula 1
15 July 2015 – DTM Champion Marco Wittmann says his recent Formula 1 test with Toro Rosso has not ignited a desire to switch to the sport, insisting he is happy in the German-based touring car series.
Wittmann completed a day of running in Toro Rosso's STR10 at the Red Bull Ring last month as a reward from BMW for securing last year's crown.
Wittmann racked up 158 laps of the Austrian circuit and clocked the fourth quickest time, though he says his focus remains on the DTM.
"I'm actually happy to be in DTM with BMW," he told GPUpdate.net when asked if Formula 1 was a credible option.
"It's a great family and I really enjoy racing here. I was never thinking about Formula 1 I have to say. Also with the current sitution, with the financial problems, in Formula 1, there are a lot of drivers bringing money to drive.
"I think that's not really a great thing in motor sport. I'm actually not really thinking about it. I'm just happy to be in DTM."
Wittmann added that drivers such as Timo Glock, who moved from Formula 1 to DTM, face a bigger challenge than those who make the step up to Formula 1.
"I think it's more difficult maybe to get to a good lap time in a DTM car," he said. "Especially as the field is so close together.
"Timo and I were team-mates in our first year in DTM and he told me you always try to overdrive the car if you come from Formula 1 to DTM.
"So maybe it's more difficult to come from Formula 1 to DTM to adapt your driving style than the other way around."
