Kubica to finish season with BMW
10 August 2006 – Robert Kubica is set to finish the season for BMW after he stepped in for Jacques Villeneuve at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Polish driver was being evaluated on a race-by-race basis, but after his strong drive BMW has decided to give him another five Grand Prix to prove himself worthy of a race seat next season, F1Racing.net can reveal.
A BMW spokesperson told F1Racing.net: "Yes, Robert Kubica will be racing with us for the rest of the season. That is what we have planned at the moment."
Before Hungary, Kubica was BMW's third driver. The 21-year-old often went fastest in Friday practice sessions and since he was promoted, BMW has lacked a third driver for Fridays, but things will change.
"We are searching for a driver to be in the car in the free practice sessions," BMW's spokesperson added. "We have a list of drivers that we are looking at at the moment and we hope to have one in our car in Istanbul already."
