Michael tells Ralf to take year out

9 December 2007

Michael Schumacher has told brother Ralf he should take a sabbatical year from F1 before deciding on whether he wants to stay in the sport. The comments come after both brothers tested at Jerez this week and while Michael impressed again, Ralf finished at the bottom of the timesheets.

"I don't know all his options but before he drives like he did yesterday, it's better to think about if it makes sense to drive knowing you can only come last," Michael Schumacher was quoted as saying by Autosport. "I think there are more reasonable, safer, wealthier and nicer options for him."

"I told him personally that there are so many nice things outside of F1," he added. "But I don't know all his options. There are other seats still open so he might see other options. If he can get a good result then he should, but he's young enough to stop, re-evaluate the situation and come back."
