'Dennis could still be in trouble' - Ecclestone

21 April 2009

Bernie Ecclestone has warned Ron Dennis that he could still find himself with problems to resolve after McLaren's FIA hearing, which set to take place next week. The team will go in front of the governing body's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) on Thursday 29 April, after presenting race stewards with false information in Australia.

An official announcement from Dennis on Thursday confirmed that he would be cutting ties with the McLaren Formula One team after 29 years, to concentrate on the group's road car project. F1 supremo Ecclestone, however, believes Dennis should not feel comfortable ahead of next week's session in Paris.

"Ron going makes no difference," Bernie told The Mail. "I don't know if he stepped back to put distance between himself and the team, but it won't matter to the council. They will still want to investigate what went on around the stewards' hearing in Australia."

McLaren team manager Dave Ryan has already lost his job as a result of lying to the stewards following an on-track scenario between Lewis Hamilton and Jarno Trulli, the former of which also gave a false story on behalf of Ryan. "If Ron resigned to stop the hearing, it won't work," Ecclestone added. "This is not about the personalities of Ron and Max (Mosley, FIA president), it is about finding out if there was more to what happened than what we have already learned."
