Alguersuari to test Toro Rosso on Thursday

Alguersuari to test Toro Rosso on Thursday

Jaime Alguersuari will step into the cockpit of the Toro Rosso STR4 on Thursday as the Italian squad prepares to run the Spaniard in the car for the first time. The reigning British Formula 3 Champion will be taking advantage of one of the few tests teams are allowed to run during the season.

Although no official statement has yet been issued by the team, an announcement is soon expected to name Alguersuari as replacement for Sébastien Bourdais, as the Frenchman is believed to have driven his last race at the Nürburgring on Sunday.

A Toro Rosso spokesperson has confirmed to GPUpdate.net that Alguersuari will be taking part in a straight-line test for the Faenza-based team, seemingly in preperation to drive in Bourdais' place for the remainder of the 2009 season.

Although a testing ban prevents cars from running on circuits during the championship season, limited aerodynamic runs are permitted and the 19-year-old Barcelona-born driver - who would be the youngest in the history F1 if confirmed as racing in Hungary - will be driving the Ferrari-powered car at the Vairano Automotive Safety Center in Italy.
