BAR signs Anthony Davidson as test driver
4 December 2000 – British American Racing today announced that British driver Anthony Davidson joins the team as test driver, with immediate effect.
Anthony is recognised as a rising star and was one of Jenson Button's main karting rivals during their early careers. The 21 year old from Hemel Hempstead only started racing cars in the winter of 1999 winning 5 out of 7 races, all from pole position, including the Formula Ford Festival 1600 Kent class final, and the Winter Series Zetec Formula Ford Championship title. The 2000 season saw him finish 3rd in his rookie year in the Formula Ford Zetec series, taking 3 wins for Haywood Racing and winning the prestigious Formula Ford Winter Series.
Commenting on the new signing, British American Racing Managing Director, Craig Pollock, said, "All of us here at BAR are extremely excited about the signing. We fully believe that we have found an outstanding talent in Anthony and we were not surprised by the outcome of the McLaren Autosport Award Young Driver of the Year trophy in recognition of this. We are sure that this is not the first and certainly not the last trophy that Anthony will receive. We are looking forward to a successful partnership and welcome him onboard and to British American Racing"
