Fisichella warned for slowing Sutil

26 September 2009

Ferrari driver Giancarlo Fisichella has received a reprimand for holding up former team-mate Adrian Sutil in qualifying on Saturday. The German was eliminated from Q1 after being caught behind the Italian but still starts two positions ahead of the latter in Singapore.

With Sutil 16th and Fisichella 18th, the Roman continues to struggle for Ferrari after making his debut for the team at Monza two weeks ago. "I lost some time on my fastest lap when Giancarlo was in front of me in the middle sector," Sutil explained after qualifying.

'The Stewards, having met with the drivers and their team representatives and having considered all of the evidence including team data and GPS information, have decided that this incident is a breach of Article 31.7 of the 2009 Formula One Sporting Regulations,' a statement from FIA-appointed race stewards reads.

A verbal reprimand (but no penalty) has been handed to Fisichella. Also, no further action was taken regarding an incident in which Kazuki Nakajima could have been held up by Sutil in Q1.
