Flavio Briatore has hit back at the FIA on Friday after the Paris-based federation, governing body for Formula One, explained how it condemned the leaking of data on the internet leading up to the September hearing after which the Italian was eternally barred from the sport.
With the FIA having handed Briatore a ban for life due to his role in the Singapore 2008 race-fixing scandal, it has explained that it did not agree with the leaking of information and that, furthermore, the data in question served no purpose when deliberating over which form of punishment should be handed to the 59-year-old.
With Renault having received a suspended ban which is due to expire at the end of next year, should no such event take place again before then, Briatore - former Managing Director of the Team - has said that the FIA's choice to eject him from the sport forever came as a result of pre-hearing meetings between senior members of the group.
'The FIA neglects to mention that, according to declarations by one of its own vice-Presidents to the media, the world council's decision was rather the outcome of secret negotiations on the eve of the sham hearing,' reads a statement from Briatore, seen by Reuters.
Briatore will be attending a French court hearing on Tuesday 24 November in order to attempt an over-ruling of the ban as well as trying to claim damages from the FIA of an estimated minimum of €1m (just under £900,000).
