Nakajima future in Toyota's hands

23 November 2009

Kazuki Nakajima has explained that his immediate Formula 1 future currently rests with Toyota. Despite never having raced with the now departed red and white team, the former Williams drivers remains part of its young driver scheme and hopes a drive can be found ahead of the new season.

After making his F1 debut with Toyota-powered Williams in 2008, Nakajima struggled with the competitiveness of the field this season and was unable to score a World Championship point. Talking at the Toyota Motor Sports Festival at the weekend, the Aichi man hopes that a race seat can be located.

"I have handed negotiations over to Toyota for next season and, at the moment, there is no contract but a lot of uncertain things in F1 because more teams will join and there are some vacant seats on the driver market," Nakajima explained to GPUpdate.net at Fuji Speedway.

Kazuki also feels that his abilities should beat those of any rookie driver who may act as an unneeded and added risk to a new team. "I have experience from over the past two years and had a solid season as a driver, although I didn't have a good final result," he said of the 2009 campaign. "I'm more confident, so I hope I can find a race seat to make the most out of."
