Theissen waiting on entry decision

Theissen waiting on entry decision

The BMW Sauber team is still not assured of a place on the 2010 grid, according to their Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. The Hinwil-based squad were expected to complete the line-up following Toyota's withdrawal earlier this month.

"The situation has not changed," Theissen explained. "The team still doesn't have a grid slot. We expect to get one, but it is not done yet".

The FIA is currently considering legal action against Toyota after they quit the sport for financial reasons, despite committing until 2012, and the governing body are unwilling to confirm the entry list until legal proceedings are concluded. Theissen expressed his frustration with the delay, with the team yet to confirm any drivers for the new season and Christian Klien and Nick Heidfeld linked with seats.

"Obviously the delay makes it difficult for negotiations with drivers and sponsors," German Theissen added. With the team's future up in the air, Theissen's own future also remains in question; there had been suggestions that he would become Team Principal of the Qadbak-owned team, should its place on the grid be assured.

"I will decide on it when the new team is safe and everything is sorted," he added.
