Tuesday marks Flavio Briatore's hearing with French courts as the Italian attempts to overturn the ban which currently sees him expelled from Formula 1 for life. Imposed by governing body the FIA for his part in the Singapore 2008 race-fixing scandal, Tuesday's activities are the latest in the long list of events which make up 'Crashgate'.
With the scandal having taken place at the inaugural F1 night race last year but not been fully uncovered until almost 12 months on, Italian Briatore came off worst from the controversy, first resigning from his post as Renault F1 Managing Director before being banned from, not just Formula 1, but all FIA motorsport championships forever.
Tuesday's hearing will see the 59-year-old go in front of French courts - separate from the FIA's International Court of Appeal (ICA) - with the sole objective being to provide sufficient evidence to overturn the ban.
The outcome will also have ramifications for the Football League in the United Kingdom, as Briatore - a co-owner of Queens Park Rangers - also faces expulsion from that position due to the 'Fit and Proper' regulation, which prohibits any individual from being directly involved in activities after receiving a ban from a sport's governing body.
