Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutiérrez continue to look forward to their first taste of Formula 1 as the Jerez young driver test session looms. As both men prepare to travel to the south of Spain in order to drive BMW's final F1 car, relief is one emotion high up on the list of current feelings.
With the session allowing only drivers with less three Grand Prix experiences to take part, the test drives were confirmed back in July although, with BMW's F1 departure announcement having arrived the same month, doubts naturally surrounded the Spanish session and whether the Hinwil team would attend at all.
"I take the opportunity to present myself as a driver at Formula 1 level very seriously and I'm very aware of the far-reaching potential it has," explained American Rossi. "I feel very fortunate and my goals for the test are to put in a fantastic performance while fully absorbing the whole experience. A special thanks to BMW Motorsport Director Dr. Mario Theissen for making this test possible and having the confidence in me."
"We have put all our efforts into the preparations for this great opportunity that will provide me with an insight into what the future may bring," his Mexican counterpart added. "The opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car is the fulfilment of part of my dreams. I feel very pleased and will use this experience to learn about and experience the professionalism of a Formula 1 team."
