'Theissen quits Sauber role'

'Theissen quits Sauber role'

30 November 2009

Monday reports state that Mario Theissen, former Team Principal of the BMW Sauber team, has now left Formula 1 and will not remain with the Hinwil outfit, whether it is on the 2010 grid or not.

With former owner Peter Sauber now having bought back all shares in the team, Dr. Theissen has withdrawn his presence from the F1 outfit to remain as BMW Motorsport Director, according to Reuters.

'He is staying with BMW,' a BMW spokesman is quoted as saying. 'He will not be involved with Sauber. After BMW announced they were pulling out it was left up to Mario to decide and he has said that he will stay as Motorsport Director.'

After BMW purchased Sauber ahead of the 2006 season, the Bavarian manufacturer announced this July that it would be departing the sport at the 2009 campaign came to a close.
