Former double World Champion Mika Häkkinen is sure that a Formula 1 comeback for past rival Michael Schumacher would be a superb prospect for the sport. The German has recently been heavily linked with a possible return with Mercedes, which would also see him reunited with former Ferrari Technical Director Ross Brawn.
With Brawn, now Team Principal, having headed the championship-winning team which carried his own name this year, German Mercedes' buyout of the Brackley outfit has triggered a string of rumours linking the 7-time Champion with the squad.
"It is not at all difficult to believe that Michael could return," 1998 and 1999 winner Häkkinen is quoted as saying by Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat. "It would be a super gift for F1 and would bring with it a lot of positive talk to counterweight for the damaging events of last season.
"We must remember, however, that the tyres were completely different when Michael last raced and also the engines and cars have changed since then. On top of that, Michael is now three years older and therefore must carefully assess his own working methods; life is changing and there is no doubt that the success won't come at the same rate as it happened in the past."
