Berger unaware of Renault connection

19 December 2009

Former Toro Rosso team boss Gerhard Berger has said he knows nothing about any association with the Renault team. The Austrian was linked with the Enstone outfit last week with regards to a Team Manager role, after the majority of the squad's shares were purchased by Luxembourg's Genii Capital firm.

Having taken year off in 2009 after selling back his half share of Toro Rosso to Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz, Berger was linked on Friday as making an F1 return with the newly-owned Renault team.

"I don't know anything about a Renault offer," the 50-year-old explained to German publication Auto Motor und Sport. "At the moment there are not any talks with the team for any possible role." Gerhard did add, however, that he is keeping a close eye on the many management changes within the sport. "At the moment I am observing the situation," the former driver concluded.
