Joint team launch cancelled
25 December 2009The first ever joint team launch, which had been pencilled in for the end of January, is now believed to be cancelled. The cost-cutting plan to organise one major launch for all teams in one place has been supposedly called off as not every outfit will be ready by the end of the first month of the year.
With cost reduction in Formula 1 having been a major topic throughout the 2009 season, teams looked set to kick off the new decade with a fine example of such a scheme although the joint launch now looks highly unlikely.
"It's been abandoned," one team source told Reuters. "There were not going to be enough cars ready by the date that would have suited all the teams."
