Briatore happy with court ruling

5 January 2010

Flavio Briatore was unsurprisingly extremely pleased with the French court ruling on Tuesday. The Italian's lifetime ban from Formula 1 was overturned in a Paris court as the ex Renault F1 Managing Director was awarded €15,000 (£13,500) in compensation.

Briatore did not attend the hearing personally but was, according to his lawyer, pleased with the outcome. His lawyer is unaware, however, as to whether the Italian wishes to return to Formula 1 at some point.

"Mr Briatore wanted to be free to do what he wants and he did not want to be imposed an outrageous sanction taken in his absence and without being able to defend himself," lawyer Philippe Ouakrat is quoted as saying by Reuters.

According to FIA lawyer Jean-Francois Prat, though, the federation will very likely appeal the decision although the Paris-based motorsport governing body does not wish to comment further at present.
