Briatore considering to sue Piquets

6 January 2010

A rejuvenated Flavio Briatore has admitted that he is now considering legal action against the Piquet family as the 'Crashgate' race-fixing scandal bursts back into life. With his lifetime ban from Formula 1 lifted by French courts, Italian Briatore's F1 comeback is still subject to a likely appeal from governing body the FIA.

Expelled from all FIA motorsport championships for life in September after being found guilty of planning a deliberate accident for Nelson Piquet. Jr in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, Briatore submitted an appeal in October before it was declared a success on Tuesday. When asked if he now considers taking legal action towards Piquets Jr. and Sr, Briatore's response was clear.

"Very probable," the former Renault F1 Managing Director explained to Italy's Gazetta dello Sport. "I will not forget the pain I've suffered in a day."

Having managed a number of drivers, who were subsequently told by the FIA that their required Superlicences would be removed should they not end their association with Briatore, Flavio added that he may also take action towards the individuals in question.

"Apart from Heikki Kovalainen and Lucas Di Grassi, my relationship with the other drivers has never changed," he continued. "Now we will look at the situation with lawyers to see if we can take legal action against those who have broken contracts with us."
