Tung still in talks with Renault

26 January 2010

Ho-Pin Tung believes he still stands a chance of sealing a test - and possibly race - seat at Renault for the upcoming season. Contrary to reports in the Netherlands' media on Tuesday, however, the Dutch-Chinese driver denies that a contract has been signed with the French team.

"There are still discussions ongoing with Renault but there is no deal yet, unfortunately," the 27-year-old confirmed to GPUpdate.net before adding that being team-mate to Robert Kubica in a race role is possible for 2010.

"Test driver would be nice, of course, but being one of the team's race drivers is obviously better," he continued. "We must wait - hopefully we'll be able to announce something soon."

With the Enstone outfit now owned by Gerard Lopez's Genii Capital, drivers connected to his Gravity Sport Management company - such as Belgium's Jérôme D'Ambrosio and Germany's Christian Vietoris, plus Tung - have been tipped as favourites for the second race seat although Team Principal Eric Boullier has stressed that this will not be an influencing factor when making a final decision.
