Luca Badoer and Marc Gene will be retained by Ferrari as test and reserve drivers this year, company Chairman Luca di Montezemolo said on Thursday. The Italian and Spaniard have amassed much experience working together since being Minardi team-mates for the 1999 season.
Although di Montezemolo is surprised that Mercedes' Michael Schumacher is now a rival as opposed to be a key player in the Ferrari team, the Italian is confident with his current line-up.
"When Ferrari decided to take Räikkönen in 2005, the alternative was Alonso, who now finds himself in a fundamental moment of his life," di Montezemolo explained. "He's matured, young and strong, he's won two World Championships - one in 2005 and one in 2006, beating us 100 percent.
"We don't have any problem as far as our drivers are concerned. We have Massa, who is back with further enthusiasm, we have Alonso and then we have Fisichella as the third driver and two very experienced test drivers: Marc Gené and Luca Badoer."
