Michael Schumacher has admitted that he experienced an unusual feeling in Valencia on Monday as he began testing with Mercedes Grand Prix. The test session in Spain is the first large gathering for the Formula 1 fraternity this year as the German makes his comeback against old team Ferrari.
With Ferrari - Schumacher's home for 11 seasons - and Felipe Massa having topped the Monday timesheets, the Kerpen driver finished third behind the Sauber of Pedro de la Rosa but admitted that seeing a red car on-track from a distance was an odd experience.
"Naturally, it's a strange sensation, seeing my old car on the track and not sitting in it," the 7-time World Champion, who spent Tuesday training with the team, told the official F1 website, "but it was good to see my 'brother' in the car and I've enjoyed seeing my friends down at Ferrari this week."
For the start of the new decade, Schumacher makes up half of an all-German line-up at Mercedes. "I think we've done a very good job," Michael continued of himself and team-mate Nico Rosberg. "The guys did a superb job out there; being out there, making a few control checks and making the car reliable, worked very well. We did more than 80 laps and, for a first day, it was a superb job."
With Rosberg having enjoyed a full day of testing on Tuesday, Schumacher will be the only man in the MGP W01 on Wednesday.
