Dramatic stock car debut for Piquet

7 February 2010

Nelson Piquet Jr. has finished in 27th place on his stock car racing debut. The former Renault driver set off from seventh in the Daytona round of the ARCA Re/Max series but became involved in several incidents as the race progressed, including one with fellow rookie and IndyCar pilot Danica Patrick.

Patrick had risen to the top six until being pitched by Brazilian Piquet on the 53rd lap, dropping the American to a superstitiously ironic 13th place.

Danica recovered well by making the best use of slipstreaming opportunities on her rise back to sixth.

Piquet, driving for Eddie Sharp Racing, was also progressing until being involved in another tangle which saw the German-born driver plummet to a final position of 27th.
