'Simple component' reason for Webber stoppage

10 February 2010

Red Bull Racing experienced a somewhat frustrating first pre-season test of the year at Jerez on Wednesday. Following the launch of the Renault-powered RB6 in the pit lane at 8:30am, Mark Webber was in the cockpit on-track but was forced to remain in the pits for over four hours in the afternoon.

With Webber having been the first man to dive out of the pit lane as the green light illuminated at 9 o'clock, the Australian ground to a halt and saw his car returned to the garage on the back of a flatbed lorry just an hour later, brining out the day's first red flags.

Following much work from the mechanics, which involved removing the car's floor, the Australian returned to the track at 4:45, only to see an early end to the session after Nico Rosberg's Mercedes stopped just minutes later.

"It was great to finally see the car in action after a long winter with no testing," commented Ian Morgan, Red Bull's Head of Race Engineering. "Everything ran very smoothly this morning and the build of the car was very structured.

"It's frustrating that a problem with a simple component late morning forced an engine change later in the day, as it cost us quite a lot of time. However, the most disappointing thing today was the weather - it's good to have a test in the wet, but it's not ideal when it's your first."
