Michelin in 'formal discussions' with FIA
15 February 2010 – Tyre manufacturer Michelin is believed to be in talks with Formula 1 governing body the FIA with regards to a possible return to the sport next season. The French company withdrew at the end of 2006 as F1 switched to a one-make series for tyres, although Bridgestone has announced that the upcoming campaign will be its last.
With the Paris-based FIA on the hunt for a new tyre supplier, Michelin is believes to be interested so long as it would be able to make a return whilst promoting environmentally-friendly products.
"We might consider returning but there are some very clear conditions," Jean-Dominique Senard, a Michelin Managing Partner, is quoted as saying by Bloomberg. "The major point is to make sure the tyres show what they can bring to the automotive industry."
The FIA is yet to reveal details on possible replacements for Bridgestone.
