The Lotus team has been forced to skip the rest of Thursday at Jerez after a driving error by Heikki Kovalainen damaged the car shortly after 1 o'clock. With no spare components available, the team now awaits a delivery from its base in Norfolk, expected within the early hours of tomorrow morning.
Presented with another wet track and more rain in Spain on Thursday, the showers had ceased by the time the Finn lost control on the exit of Turn 3, causing the third red flag of the day so far after contacting with the safety barriers.
Parts are now being hurried to the circuit and, according to team Technical Director Mike Gascoyne, should arrive at approximately 2am.
'Had a crash and damaged front wing, session over for us,' Kovalainen wrote on his personal Twitter account once back in the paddock. 'S..t! My mistake, tomorrow we go again...'
