Michael Schumacher was both optimistic and realistic in Spain on Friday as he finished his running for Jerez testing this week. Having begun Mercedes' programme on Thursday, the German hands the MGP W01 back over to team-mate Nico Rosberg as the 4-day test comes to a close on Saturday.
Pleased that the sun elected to make an appearance following a thunderstorm of biblical proportions on Thursday night, leaving local roads littered with debris, Schumacher notched up a best effort of 1:21.437 to post the day's fifth quickest time, 2.1 seconds down on leader Mark Webber's Red Bull.
"Today was a nice end to my testing days in Jerez this week and it was great to finally have some consistent dry running," the 7-time World Champion said in the early evening.
"We are on schedule with our programme but at the same time we are well aware that there is still a lot of work ahead of us. The final test in Barcelona next week will be an important test in this respect and will give us valuable information about the performance of the car."
