Button fastest on final day at Jerez

20 February 2010

McLaren driver Jenson Button set the fastest time on the clocks at Jerez on Saturday; the Briton completed the best lap of the week, in fact, with a 1:18.872 in the south of Spain, two tenths ahead of Renault driver Robert Kubica.

Saturday was the final day of testing at Jerez this month. The Formula 1 teams now have just four days of testing ahead of them (in Barcelona) before they travel to Bahrain.

The final day of running at Jerez was the best day of the week in terms of track conditions, with an all-dry day which finally made it possible to complete race distances on Slick tyres.

Lotus F1 driver Jarno Trulli completed 141 laps today but is still well off the pace compared to the top teams. However, the new English team continues to focus on reliability for the time being.

Virgin Racing´s Timo Glock faced another day of hydraulic problems; the German completed just 28 laps although the pace of the Virgin car is already promising.

The final four days of testing will start on Thursday at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.
