Own-made Toro Rosso ready to race

28 February 2010

The start of the upcoming campaign will be a particularly poignant moment for the Toro Rosso team as it prepares to race the first car to have been designed and constructed domestically at its Faenza base.

With so-called customer cars banned for 2010, the outfit formerly known as Minardi is now unable to make use of work from sister company Red Bull Technology, the same name behind the Red Bull Racing squad.

"Just two weeks from today, we will be racing in the Bahrain Grand Prix," explains Toro Rosso Team Principal Franz Tost. "It will be Scuderia Toro Rosso's first ever race with a car designed totally in-house.

"Thanks to an intensive and effective programme through 2009 and the enormous efforts of all our staff and suppliers, we were able to get our car out on schedule and I want to thank them for a job well done.

"It was also important that both Jaime (Alguersuari) and Sébastien (Buemi) completed a full race simulation here in Barcelona. It means that we can arrive at the Sakhir circuit reasonably confident, as far as reliability goes.

"It just leaves the big question - how fast will we be? And the answer to that is will have to wait at least until after qualifying and the race in Bahrain."
