Lotus in very good shape, says Gascoyne

9 March 2010

The Lotus name will officially return to Formula 1 this weekend as the Norfolk-based 1Malaysia squad competes in the Bahrain Grand Prix, bringing the legendary branding back to the sport for the first time since 1994.

With race winners Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen on-board, Mike Gascoyne makes his own F1 comeback in 2010 and remains positive about the season ahead.

"Our test season was extremely productive," the team's Chief Technical Officer commented. "In general we've had very good reliability and the team is in very good shape going to the first race."

"We are all looking forward to Bahrain," added Team Principal Tony Fernandes. "To have Lotus Racing on the grid will be a momentous occasion for all involved and, indeed, for our fans, whose support has been absolutely fantastic since we launched just under six months ago.

"Yes, we are a little slower than the major leading teams; however, we will get there with passion, hard work and a clear vision - our aim for this first Grand Prix will be to finish and steadily but surely improve, race by race."
