A Grand Prix on the streets of Italian capital city Rome has been confirmed by Formula 1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone for the 2013 season. The addition to the calendar will come as it increases in size once again, to 20 races.
With 2010 hosting 19 Grands Prix - the highest amount in one season to date, as first seen in 2005 - the calendar is set to expand yet further in coming years as the 20 figure is hit for the first time.
With Rome having been named as a possible candidate for a race last year before Ecclestone seemingly drifted away from the idea, it now appears as though as deal has been struck.
"Rome will come into the programme for 2013," the Englishman told German magazine Speedweek. "We will have 20 races and the teams will be happy with it."
It is also believed that Ecclestone is still considering a return to the United States in the form of New York street race.
