Bahrain 'high point' in di Grassi career

10 March 2010

Lucas di Grassi looks forward to introducing Virgin to Formula 1 this weekend as the team formerly known as Manor lines up for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. Having been part of Renault's young driver development programme early in the last decade, Lucas also looks forward to racing alongside Timo Glock.

Having tested for Renault but never being handed a race drive, Brazil's di Grassi will start his first F1 race at the age of 27 in car 25, the highest numbered on the starting grid in 2010.

"It's very exciting to be here at last, ready to take part in our debut Grand Prix," Lucas commented. "It's also my own personal F1 debut, which definitely makes this weekend the high point of my career. I'd like to thank everybody in the team for the hard work and determination that we have all seen, especially over the past few weeks in pre-season testing."

After suffering a number of problems during the off-season, not least a high-speed crash in Barcelona, di Grassi remains realistic despite the obvious excitement this weekend.

"It hasn't always gone our way but the team have fought hard and their spirits are high," the Paulista continued. "Bahrain will be a tough challenge, for sure. We will need to learn how to get the maximum out of the car in race weekend conditions."
