Pedro de la Rosa is unsure that, as suggested by F1 tyre manufacturer Bridgestone, the Sauber team may have an advantage in terms of overall grip levels this weekend; pre-season analysis conducted by the Japanese company suggests that the cars of de la Rosa and Kamui Kobayashi preserve their tyres better than any other although the Spaniard believes that performances will vary in Bahrain.
With track temperatures in the Middle Eastern desert being more than double those of most winter test sessions in Spain, de la Rosa advises onlookers to wait until the action begins in Bahrain.
"I don't think that information is so relevant because we've come from winter testing, when temperatures were very low, to reality," Pedro told reporters. "I think the way we will use the tyres will change dramatically from the way it was in Barcelona, for example, so we have to be open-minded - we can only judge it by what I feel and, looking at the data from our car, we're quite happy with the tests which we've done."
Having raced in Bahrain only once previously, when deputising for an injured Juan-Pablo Montoya in 2005, the former Arrows, Jaguar and McLaren driver is pleased to be back. "It feels good," continued the second oldest driver in the field. "I'm very happy to be back, to be honest, and relaxed as well; it's probably because just being here, for me, is already like winning a Grand Prix!"
