McLaren rear wing legal, says FIA

11 March 2010

The FIA, Formula 1's governing body, has confirmed that McLaren's rear wing is legal after rival teams questioned the device. With McLaren having invited the FIA to review the component, which it has also done during pre-season testing, its legality has been finally confirmed.

Unlike the double diffuser situation of early last season, which meant the results of the first two races were pending an appeal which eventually failed, McLaren's wing will not cause heated discussion after the FIA declared the rear end of the MP4-25 as completely legal, as expected.

The part of the car is unique in that it connects with the engine cover, although Ferrari and Red Bull in particular sought clarification over the area.
