Ecclestone calls for 'more sensible' team selections

11 March 2010

Bernie Ecclestone believes that he has no reason to hide the fact that he tried his best to ensure the Stefan GP team made the grid this year, with the full knowledge that US F1 would not be able to race. The F1 commercial rights holder would be pleased to see 'more sensible' decisions made in the future.

With US F1 signed up to compete but behind on its car development, Serbian hopefuls Stefan were in position to step in this weekend, having purchased several ex Toyota cars and components.

"It was difficult because the other people (US F1) had an entry and kept saying that they were going to be here, that there is no problem and everything is fine," Ecclestone explained to the official F1 website. "As they had an entry, we couldn't say, 'Sorry, we don't believe you.' I said that and got a lot of criticism - I said that, and it turned out to be the truth.

"Unfortunately it was not possible to get Stefan GP in at the last minute. You need to do such things a bit more sensibly."
