José María López has hit out at the US F1 team after it deprived him of a Formula 1 debut this year. The Argentinean had been set to move to the World Championship although, with the Charlotte-based squad having pulled out, no drive in any shape or form is the result.
With it having become obvious shortly before the start of the campaign that US F1 would not make the grid, Felipe McGough - Manger of López - eventually managed to break his driver's contract and had hoped to secure a test and reserve role at Hispania, although this eventually proved fruitless.
"I find it hard to say that we did it wrong," López is quoted as saying in the Argentinean media. "I think we put too much trust in what the people were telling us.
"As soon as I arrived in Charlotte in February, I realised that everything they (US F1) were saying was not true. What happened to us was unthinkable. In 60 years of Formula 1, it had never happened, a team which is signed up not making it. They hid things from us."
With US F1 team founders Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor having remained generally silent over the failure to race and the driver's consequent feelings, López is not giving up on his F1 dream. "My idea is to go on, not just lay my head down," the 28-year-old continued. "Everybody knows has what happened. We're going to go on, even though we have no firm project.
"Of course it's not the same anymore - there have been many negative moments and I don't know how long my family and I can cope with it. Testing would now be the easiest thing because racing in F1 is almost impossible for me this year. I'll have to be making decisions at some point soon."
