I'm not missing F1, says Briatore

5 May 2010

Disgraced former Renault Team Manager Flavio Briatore has reiterated that he has no desires to return to Formula 1 in any role, adding that the sport is lacking in spectacle. The Italian left the Enstone team as his involvement in the highly-controversial 'Crashgate' race-fixing scandal was revealed last year.

Having been banned from the sport for life by governing body the FIA, the Paris-based body lightened the penalty in the middle of last month, claiming that both Briatore and ex colleague Pat Symonds would be able to return to fully operational roles in F1 as of the start of the 2013 season.

Briatore, however, is sure that he will not be making a comeback. "After winning seven world titles with two different teams, it wouldn't make much difference to have an eighth," Briatore, who saw the permanent ban lifted on his 60th birthday, explained to Italian publication Autosprint.

"I think winning with Renault (and Fernando Alonso, 2005 and 2006) was a miracle but you can't have miracles all the time."

He added that F1's current condition is more of a reason not to come back. "I don't enjoy it anymore - there's no adrenaline," he continued. "It's something I just don't miss at all."

Briatore also criticises the FIA, formerly led by Max Mosley as opposed to current President Jean Todt, for its dealings over the course of last year: "When we were pushing to have three cars per team, they ended up welcoming (new) teams with no guaranteed budgets and I think that was a bad decision."
