Lotus and Williams pondering Renault engine switch

20 May 2010

Car manufacturer Renault is currently providing both its works Formula 1 team and the Red Bull Racing squad with its powerful powerplants although the French marque could end up supplying even more teams next year.

The Renault-powered Red Bull team currently leads both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships and, according to Italian magazine Autosprint, Renault is currently in talks with both Lotus and Williams with regards to supplying customer units in 2011.

The company's Head of Engine Operations, Remi Taffin, confirmed to Autosport this week that Renault is able capable of supplying more teams. "We don't know which teams we will be supplying next year," he began.

"We certainly have got the capacity to supply more than the two teams we have been doing this year, it's not a big problem for us. Obviously we have to produce a few more engines and get some more people to do the job. As far as getting an engine ready and supplying two teams, it's then not a big problem to do so for three or four teams with an extra effort."

Both Lotus and Williams are currently running with Cosworth power.
