Silverstone opens new Stowe pit complex

3 June 2010

Silverstone has unveiled the latest photos of its brand-new state-of-the-art Stowe pit complex, which was officially opened on Thursday. The latest developments are part of the major overhaul of the Northamptonshire circuit, which includes the new Arena track layout which will be used for this year's British Grand Prix next month.

Due to be finished next year, the new complex will include garages, a Race Control building and media centre as well as VIP spectator areas, hospitality zones and a new paddock. The pit wall has already been constructed and runs along the straight between Club and Abbey corners.

The pit lane itself, including respective entry and exit points which will be after Stowe corner and at the new Farm Corner, remains under construction.

Also at the Stowe Complex will be a new purpose-built circuit, measuring just over a mile in length, and will include a split braking area plus a three-lane irrigated wet handling pad which will allow those using it to experiment with grip levels ranging from standard wet tarmac to sheet ice.

Two brand-new hospitality buildings, one for the Stowe Complex and another for the South Circuit, boast roof terraces for viewing as well as their own briefing rooms and catering facilities.

"These new facilities, and the redevelopment of Silverstone at large, will provide a venue where all forms of automotive and motorsport events can be celebrated in style," said Silverstone Managing Director Richard Phillips.
