F1 routine harder than expected for Soucek

11 June 2010

Andy Soucek continues to enjoy his time as Virgin Racing test and reserve driver but admits that keeping up with a Formula 1 schedule can be trying at certain moments. Having picked up the Formula 2 crown last year, the Spaniard remains on-hand in case either Timo Glock or Lucas di Grassi need to be replaced at any point.

Soucek was drafted into Virgin earlier this season, partnering Brazilian Luiz Razia on the test team after Portugal's Álvaro Parente suffered the loss of a key sponsor.

"The most significant thing about Formula 1 is the amount of travelling - it's completely crazy," Soucek explained to the official F2 website. "I don't even know where I am most of the time but I am enjoying myself very much.

"The stress of keeping a regular timetable has been tougher than I thought and I am often fitting in my training schedule at odd hours of the night!

"I really admire the drivers in F1; they're extremely professional, which I knew beforehand of course, but their levels have further surprised me. You really have to work, work, work, if you want to be successful."
