Magnussen confirms NASCAR debut
11 June 2010 – Ex McLaren and Stewart driver Jan Magnussen has confirmed that he will be making his first appearance in NASCAR next weekend. The Danish driver will be taking part for Phoenix Racing, driving a Chevrolet at Sonoma.
Having tested in the series in past years, Magnussen is now confirmed as competing in the #09 car next time out in California.
"It's huge," he said. "I have never concealed the fact that I wanted to try my hand at NASCAR."
Now 36, Jan made his Formula 1 debut with a sole appearance for McLaren to finish tenth in the 1995 Pacific Grand Prix. He then joined Stewart for 1997 before being dropped by Sir Jackie's team after the Montreal race of 1998, in which he had ironically scored his first and only point.
