Ex McLaren Team Principal Ron Dennis was delighted to witness a 1-2 for his team in Montreal, having made the journey to watch the race trackside. Now head of sister company McLaren Automotive, the 63-year-old has explained that the team's rapid rate of development is a major contributor to its recent successes.
Despite enduring an awful start to the 2009 season, McLaren recovered in dramatic fashion to clinch two race wins in the second half of the year on the way to being classified third overall in the Constructors' Championship.
Now, after eight races of 2010, the Woking squad has extended its advantage in the teams' battle and is pleased to see both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button atop the drivers' standings.
"It's great, I'm still a racer," Dennis told the BBC after Sunday's spectacular encounter. "It was tremendous motor race for everybody but especially for us.
"We knew we were taking a gamble yesterday but it paid off - we hoped for a Safety Car but we were strong enough anyway, as we're relentless on development and that means we win races."
