GP2 driver Sam Bird is set to pilot a title-winning McLaren of 1974 as well as this year's Williams at next weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Roehampton man, who also played a role in the ever-popular event last year, is currently competing in his first GP2 season for ART Grand Prix.
Bird made his unofficial Formula 1 debut back in 2007, driving the Toyota-powered Williams FW20 in a straight-line aerodynamics test at Kemble.
However, Sam now looks forward to driving the Cosworth-powered car which powers Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hülkenberg this year as well as Emerson Fittipaldi's McLaren-Ford M23, which picked up the 1974 Drivers' and Constructors' title.
"I'm quite passionate about the history of Formula 1, so to drive the '74 title-winning McLaren will be a real honour," said Bird. "I am grateful to (car owner) Richard Meins for the opportunity.
"I am also really pleased to get behind the wheel of this year's Williams and I would like to thank Sir Frank, Patrick Head and everyone at Williams for calling upon me again this year.
"I am not under contract with Williams, or with any other F1 team at this stage, so for them to ask me to drive one of their cars at Goodwood for the second year is a real compliment."
