Barrichello returning to winning venue

22 June 2010

Rubens Barrichello heads to Spain this weekend after ending his five-year victory drought with a win in the European Grand Prix last year. Having switched from Brawn GP to Williams over the winter break, the Brazilian now aims for a solid improvement after a difficult weekend last time out in Canada.

The 2009 European Grand Prix saw Rubens start third on the grid behind an all-McLaren front row; however, the Paulista was able to shoot to the forefront of the field thanks to an efficient strategy, several rapid laps an a pit-stop error by McLaren.

"I have great memories of Valencia," he said. "I won the race there last year - it was my tenth win so it was great fun. It was also significant because it really pulled me back into contention for the championship.

"Cosworth is doing well to improve its consistency and the team are bringing some more upgrades to Spain, so I'm looking forward to seeing where their combined efforts put us. The challenge in Valencia is to get into Q3 and score some points."
