Frentzen to be steward for European GP

23 June 2010

Heinz-Harald Frentzen will be joining Race Control as he serves as a steward for the European Grand Prix in Valencia this weekend. The German last drove in Formula 1 for Sauber at the end of the 2003 campaign.

Having switched to Germany’s DTM in 2004, before leaving touring car racing at the end of the 2006 season, Frentzen has since taken part in the Le Mans 24 Hours of 2008 but raced in 156 F1 Grands Prix between 1994 and 2003.

After starting with Peter Sauber’s squad, Heinz-Harald – who turned 43 last month – moved to Williams and achieved his first win at the 1997 San Marino Grand Prix. Having finished runner-up in the championship following Michael Schumacher’s overall disqualification, two more Frentzen victories came after moving to Jordan in 1999.

A transfer to Arrows yielded just two points in a season which was cut short in 2002 before a final year with Sauber which yielded one rostrum result in the wet American Grand Prix at Indianapolis.
