Despite placing the f-duct on its car on Friday for the first time since Barcelona, Red Bull Racing is yet to confirm whether the rear wing-stalling device will stay put for the remainder of the Valencia weekend. Sebastian Vettel narrowly missed out on the top spot in second practice as team-mate Mark Webber ended the day less than a tenth behind.
With second and third positions confirmed, Red Bull appear to be in the running in Valencia although, with the track having been slippery due to a layer of dust on Friday, things could still change as the weekend begins.
“Overall a good day; we did a lot of laps and we didn’t have any problems with the car, so we could follow our programme as it should be on a Friday,” Vettel explained.
“We need to see if we can keep the f-duct on the car, we need to confirm that, but all in all I think the pace was promising today considering this shouldn’t be our strongest track. We have made a step forward with the whole car - it was a good day for us.”
“We had a good Friday programme, with no interruptions, and evaluated the tyres and the f-duct which we will look into tonight,” Webber added. “As we all know, it’s not without its challenges getting that thing working.”
