Barrichello aiming for Q3

26 June 2010

Rubens Barrichello is targeting the top ten shootout as Valencia prepares for its third ever Formula 1 qualifying session this afternoon. The Brazilian, last year’s winner for Brawn GP, enjoyed a strong performance as he finished in the top ten for Williams in Friday’s second practice session.

Although team-mate Nico Hülkenberg had a more frustrating time, Barrichello was mostly pleased with the handling of his own Cosworth-powered car on Friday.

“We had a pretty much straightforward day during which we tested various things and they seem to work better,” he said.

“It’s the first time we’ve been in the top ten on a Friday; we can’t read too much into that but at least it tells us that we can be competitive. The main aim tomorrow is to get into Q3.”

“Quite a difficult Friday for me,” admitted the reigning GP2 Champions. “Practice 2 wasn’t really to my liking - I struggled with the balance of the car and I didn’t get a good lap on the Option (Super Soft compound) tyre.”
